Lori Mason - Interior Design

Hundreds of visitors want to know who decorated the Highfield model home at Renaissance Pointe! It’s Lori Mason, a professional home stager and decorator. Lori has decorated and staged over 60 Ideal Builders model homes and a host of others private homes in the past two years. Her remarkable work is characterized by the lively use of the surrounding environment, natural home features, lighting, textures and color to create a theme and feeling in the home that is simply unforgettable.

Lori believes it is important to keep one key principal in mind when decorating or redesigning a home, regardless whether it is a new home or one which is already lived in. “Define the best interior feature or main focal point in the home and make it shine,” she says. Lori chooses something unique in the home; artwork, a fabric, a sofa or something special. “What or where do I want my eyes drawn to?” she asks.
Next she considers the style of the home then ponders, “What is the home’s personality and character?”

Identifying a home’s personality or character is like differentiating between the simplicity of Pottery Barn furnishings and the streamlined modernistic style of IKEA. Each home’s style caters to the home owner’s own unique personality and style. “One must be sensitive to what you are attracted to when discovering your own preferred style.” Lori says. “For instance, when you are walking through a home furnishings store, you may find yourself reacting to something again and something similar again.” According to Lori, paying attention to your preferences and attractions will help you determine your preferred style. If you keep returning to the same type home furnishings store, same colors, same style or time period, pay attention because you may defining what you really like, she says.

Once the focal point is determined, and the personality or style to be achieved or enhanced is identified, the color palette is  chosen. Again, Lori looks for an object (painting, pillow, rug, or other accessory) that she or her client is drawn to. The selected object is combined with other upholstered pieces of furniture placed in the room. Next the general color is selected for the room. Before selecting the specific shade of color, natural light and size of the room is considered. All are blended together to create a delightful overall theme and feeling that continuously flows throughout the home.

The Highfield model home at Renaissance Pointe demonstrates a modern version of a cottage style home. Architectural details, such as interior column supports, trim, and door facings, determined the style of the home. The living room fireplace is the focal point. Entering the home The kitchen, dining and living room are arranged in an open floor plan that provides an easy, informal flow. Two archways lead you to the central foyer. French glass doors connect this space to the den. The natural light flows abundantly through the living space.

“My inspiration for color in the Highfield came from a simple painting of a blue jay sitting on a branch that I admired.” Lori says. The large print of the bird, along with the upholstered sofa and chair determined the color palette for this home. Cotswold Green and Sunny Haze were two colors chosen to enhance this homes warmth and charm. The medium toned wood floor, neutral carpet and white trim were considered also when selecting the shade of color. Given the abundance of natural light and openness in the space, Lori selected a medium shade of green as the color for the focal point wall. Soft hues of blue and green are used throughout the home to keep one’s eye flowing and connecting from one room to another.

Overall, at the Highfield, Lori incorporated a blend of the original 1930’s and 40’s architectural style of the surrounding Renaissance Pointe neighborhood with today’s style, open space, lighting and décor to create a charming cottage style home.
